Vast, untamed, and teeming with wildlife — Tanzania’s largest wilderness and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Selous Game Reserve, officially known as Nyerere National Park since 2019, is one of Africa’s largest and most unspoiled ecosystems. Covering over 30,000 square kilometers, it is larger than Switzerland and represents the true essence of the wild African bush.
The park’s lifeline is the Rufiji River, which forms a network of lakes, channels, and swamps that support an incredible diversity of wildlife. Visitors can experience classic game drives, thrilling boat safaris, and walking safaris — offering a unique and immersive way to explore Tanzania’s wilderness.
Nyerere National Park has a warm tropical climate, with distinct wet and dry seasons. The dry season (June–October) is the best for game viewing as animals gather around the Rufiji River. The wet season (November–April) transforms the park into a lush paradise, perfect for birdwatchers and photographers.
The best time to visit is during the dry season (June to October), when wildlife congregates along rivers and lagoons, and boat safaris offer close encounters with hippos and crocodiles. The green season (November–April) offers dramatic skies, rich vegetation, and superb birdlife.
